DP-100 System Revolutionizes Interactive Display and Manipulation for
Nanotechnology Research
Chapel
Hill, North Carolina, August 17, 2000 – 3rdTech, Inc., devoted to creating
products and businesses from university research, today announced the
availability of the NanoManipulator DP-100 System, a revolutionary tool for
research in Nanotechnology. The NanoManipulator DP-100 enhances the value of a
Scanning Probe Microscope (SPM) with capabilities never before available in a
commercial product.
Originally
research technology developed at the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill, the NanoManipulator System was designed by and for scientists to turn an
SPM into a truly interactive tool. Now available commercially for the first
time, the systems’ unique features include:
 |
Advanced 3D graphics visualization of
scanned data |
 |
State-of-the-art Force Feedback enabling
scientists to ‘feel’ and interactively manipulate their samples |
 |
An ‘automatic lab notebook’ which
records complete session data enabling replay and re-analysis of microscope
explorations. |
“The
NanoManipulator has been a successful research tool for scientists at UNC-CH for
several years”, said Nick England, President and CEO of 3rdTech, Inc.
“3rdTech is excited to be the channel to make this technology widely
available.”
The
NanoManipulator DP-100 System is tightly integrated with several different SPMs
available from ThermoMicroscopes – world leader in Atomic Force and Scanning
Probe Microscopes, including their Explorer and Discoverer models.
ThermoMicroscopes recently announced a worldwide joint marketing agreement with
3rdTech. “The NanoManipulator DP-100 is a powerful addition to our
industry-leading instruments”, said Paul West, Vice President Sales and
Marketing for ThermoMicroscopes. “Leading research laboratories worldwide will
be interested in these advanced capabilities.”
In
addition to extensive software, the NanoManipulator DP-100 System includes a
high-performance, dual-processor graphics workstation connected to the SPM, a
SensAble Technologies Phantom Desktop 6DOF interface and force-feedback device,
and a dial and pushbutton peripheral unit. It is compatible with both new and
installed ThermoMicroscopes (http://www.thermomicro.com) SPMs and will be
available this month.
